With our first three days planned, we still had four days to schedule. We wanted to visit some old favorites, and discover new places. We decided we wanted to return to Cliff Lede, Moone Tsai, Saint Helena Winery, and Viader. That left four to six wineries we could go to for the first time. I asked for recommendations at some of our favorites and came up with a short list.
On Tuesday, we were able to book a morning appointment at Porter Family Vineyards in the Coombsville AVA. Following that, we're planning to have lunch at Farmstead at Long Meadow Ranch in St. Helena, and then end our day at Saint Helena Winery. For dinner that evening we're planning to go to Basalt, located in downtown Napa on the Napa River. We've been there before, and were always impressed with the food but the service was not great. We decided we'd give it another try.
Wednesday became our "all new" day. Initially I planned to start the day by reserving a tasting at Hess Collection, but after I did some research about the Mount Veeder AVA, I found a few other places that I wanted to visit. I was able make tasting appointments at Fontanella Family and Reid Family, as well as a wine and cheese pairing at Progeny Winery. We'll be skipping lunch on Wednesday - eek - but I think (hope) the cheese pairing will be a nice warm up for dinner. For dinner on Wednesday, we're planning to go to Fume Bistro, just off Highway 29 north of downtown Napa.
On Thursday, we're going to a tasting at Moone Tsai. The tastings are hosted at Brasswood, a custom crush facility in St. Helena. After that, we'll see where the day takes us!
For our final day, we're going to the Howell Mountain AVA to visit Viader. The view here is fabulous and their wines are fantastic. We're planning to have lunch at Oakville Grocery. They have a great deli, selection of sandwiches and salads, as well as wine by the glass, beer on tap, and a pretty large selection of wine and beer. After lunch, we're going to Cliff Lede Vineyards. We've been to Cliff Lede many times, and absolutely love their selection of cabernet sauvignon and red blends. Dinner on Friday will be a repeat this trip - we're going back to Oenotri. They print their menu daily, and I could eat there every single day!
That brings us to the end of planning our 2019 trip. It will soon be time to start planning the next visit!
I'll be posting updates on our trip to Napa Valley in early October!
